New Retailer Coming to Brookside Marketplace

A more-than 23,000-square-foot building will soon join the cluster of structures in Brookside Marketplace on 191st Street in Tinley Park.

Another nationally known retailer will soon be coming to .

which purchased the shopping center earlier this year, has proposed adding a 23,344-square-foot free-standing building for an unnamed retailer, officials recently said.

The development would be built between the parking lot and a strip of stores to the south.

It would be the first new development by DDR and the first for the shopping center since an expansion last year opened up space for Old Navy, Home Goods and Five Below.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

DDR is also seeking a variance for taller monument signs around the shopping center to add space for the retailer's name, but (Greg Hannon, trustee and chair of the Planning and Zoning Committee) said he is not in favor of having monument signs larger than what the original development plan allows.

... DDR declined to comment on the new retailer because negotiations are ongoing, said spokeswoman Jennifer Daher.

Tinley Park Patch Contributor Bob Bong contributed to this report.

Yowzer, more buildings that they cannot rent out in that mall!? Sounds stupid to me.

Better not be Walmart. Sounds too small to be an IKEA, and it does say 'nationally known' not 'internationally'. Possibly Toys R Us but I think there's one down the street in Matteson so maybe not. JC Penny? Kmart doesn't really have the money. Hmm...
