Tinley Company Among Fastest-Growing in U.S., says Inc.

A local health care company recently gained national attention, joining the ranks of Inc. magazine's top 5,000 fastest growing U.S. companies.

grew an impressive 57 percent between 2008 and 2011, according to Inc., placing it at No. 3,382 on the publication's renown list. In 2011, the 1986-founded company netted a reported $57.7 million in revenue.

CEO and company president, John O'Donnell — when asked by Patch to explain his company's ranking — credited the "high caliber of employees" for SPi's successes.

“It’s truly an honor to be included on the Inc. 5000 list amongst the nation’s fastest growing private companies," he said. "Representing on this prestigious list is exciting and a testament not only to our ongoing growth strategy but also to the high caliber of employees that we employ in this area whose exceptional efforts on a daily basis have contributed to receiving this distinction."

SPi is one of only four south suburban businesses listed among the 240 Illinois companies. It ranks 268th among businesses categorized as health services. 

The company works with health care providers, including hospitals, health systems and physician groups, to improve revenue and minimize the risks associated with inadequate or inferior clinical documentation, according to its website. Its goal is managing the revenue cycle and helping health care organizations enhance their financial outlook through the improvement of clinical records and record keeping, Inc. writes.

The company added 302 jobs—accounting for nearly half of its current 639 employees—over the three-year span, all the more impressive, considering SPi typically hires people who live in and around .

"We look forward to continued growth in this community and beyond," O'Donnell said.

Its corporate facility is located at 8151 W. 183rd St., near the intersection of 80th and 183rd Street in Tinley.

Most of the Illinois businesses to make the Inc. list are based in the city of Chicago, with a fair number in the western suburbs.

SPi joins three other Southland businesses to make the Inc. cut. The others are Scrap Metal Services in Burnam (No. 2,118);  (No. 3,246); and Intelligent Solutions in Mokena (No. 4,802).
