Brownie Troop Gathers At D146's Fulton School To Help The Homeless

Brownie Troop Gathers At School District 146's Fulton School To Help The Homeless

A Brownie Troop which meets regularly at School District 146’s Fulton School in Tinley Park has been on a mission.  The girls from Troop 60020 have been working on earning their leadership badges called “World of Girls”.  The Brownies were told to think about possible problems that girls in their community might face, and figure out a service project to help them. Overwhelmingly the girls decided that homelessness was their subject to work together on, and aid.

With very little assistance from their troop leaders, the girls met at Fulton School and together they made blankets.  They also utilized some of the proceeds from their Girl Scout Cookies Sale to purchase stuffed animals.

On Monday, Feb 11th the girls met with a youth educator from the Crisis Center of South Suburbia and learned about homeless shelters and how they help girls in Tinley Park. The Brownie Troop presented the Youth Educator with the handmade blankets and then did an art project to express how they would help someone who is homeless. Additionally, the girls donated over $100 worth of items from the CCSS's wish list.

That is pretty amazing for just 7 and 8 year olds.  It shows the power of never being too young to help make a difference in our world.  Inspiring.
