CMS Marching Band and Drill Team Perform at Disney World

School District 146's Central Middle School Marching Band and Drill Team visited Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. over Spring Break.

The Central Middle School Marching Band and Drill Team had quite the spring break.  In March the two groups traveled to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. for four nights, and were given the opportunity to play for the Disney World visitors.

Both the band and the drill team were selected by video audition to play in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Parade.  The students joined two other high school bands as they marched up Main Street and through Frontier Land performing for 1,000’s of spectators.

The band students were also treated to an opportunity to participate in a clinic that was directed by a Walt Disney World professional musician.  The clinic was entitled “You’re Instrumental”.  It was an inside look on how Disney animated films are recorded.

While the band students participated in their clinic, the Drill Team’s clinic was “Dancing Disney”.  The excited CMS girls learned dance routines from a Disney chorographer, who also shared what it was like to work full-time for Disney.

The District 146 Band Parent Association hosted four fundraisers throughout the year that gave the students an opportunity to earn money to help offset the financial burden of the trip on the families. The successful fundraisers included; spaghetti dinner, holiday gift cards, candle light bowl and a Music-a-thon.

Mr. Jason Freeland, Band Director and one of the chaperones, said, "CMS students and families are still reminiscing about all of the wonderful memories, and the once in a lifetime experiences that they shared. I am so excited and grateful for the unique opportunity that was given to these extraordinary students."
