D146 Students Celebrate The 100th Day of School

School District 146 elementary students celebrate 100 days of school in their own way.

In an effort to teach students the importance of school and learning, School District 146's elementary schools celebrated the 100th day of school in big ways.  Each school took a unique approach to spotlight learning. The results were fun, very creative, and educational.

Many of the younger grade level teachers incorporated "counting to 100" into their lesson plans.  This helps to draw the connection that 100 is not just a one with two zeros behind it, but has real meaning. Counting the objects helps to bring the concept inline for the young learners. Most early learners are used to writing 100, but the concept of what 100 actually is is lost, so teachers incorporate this counting lesson into their plans.

Each of the D146 schools took unique approaches to the day.  Making it a fun day, one students viewed as a celebration.

The Fulton students celebrated by dressing up as a 100yr old people.  Surely the young students and their families really had a wonderful time together at home preparing for the special school day.  Kids were playing the parts very well. Teachers got into the fun by dressing up on this special day.

Fierke Education Center celebrated with staff and students by passing out 100th day buttons, glasses and hats for their students to color and show their creative side.   The principal, Mr. French, and the office staff even got into the fun! Teachers' lesson plans incorporated the 100th day, also.

Memorial Elementary kindergarten students created superhero-learner capes each made with 100 objects on their back. Teachers joined in wearing their own super-teacher capes, adding stickers, jewels, letters, and more. One Fulton student even copied and attached monopoly money to his cape (a budding Warren Buffett).

Kruse Education Center students  made their own celebration.  Students counted 100 items into baggies, wore handmade shirts, and the school was decorated in 100's.  The kids had a great day at Kruse, as teachers incorporated the 100th day of school into their school lessons, too.

School District 146 students had a great time celebrating their 100th day of growing smarter. Teachers of D146 did an excellent job bringing awareness to the number 100 for the younger students. Way to go, D146 staff and students!
