Fulton School Celebrates 25 Years of Preschool

CCSD146 and Fulton School celebrated 25 yrs of Preschool Programming in the district. Special activities and visitors were planned all week long in celebration of the young students.

School District 146’s Fulton School had an exciting, weeklong celebration.  The Week of the Young Child™, which took place at the school the week of the 15th, placed a public spotlight on the needs of the young and budding students, as well as recognized the efforts of early learning services providers. Principal Ron Gonser and his staff eagerly prepared for the 25th anniversary activities surrounding the school’s preschool program.

Sue Milewski, a preschool teacher at Fulton said, “It’s all about working with our young students, reaching them early and letting them know that they are valued, and that they are there to learn.  We want the young students to feel the cooperation of their parents, teachers, and principal and area leaders in their education.  The hope is that showing their value now, will lead to an increased desire and motivation for learning.”

Parents at Fulton were also encouraged to take part in the special event by decorating a silhouette of their preschooler.  “Hands on projects gives families a chance to bond and work together with their young student, and give them a chance to display their project in the school for all to see,” said Ms. Milewski.

Another portion of the activities was a visit from Senator Michael Hastings who is part of the appropriations committee which helps fund early childhood programs.  He was joined by Tinley Park and Orland Hills Police Chiefs on Mon. April 15th on behalf of the program “Fight Crime: Invest in Kids”. Together they spent time with the preschool class and read Officer Buckle and Gloria, by Peggy Rathmann, which all three gentlemen autographed and donated to Fulton.

Mr. Ron Gonser, principal at Fulton, said, “Our teachers did an excellent job preparing for the celebration of our 25th year serving the area for preschool needs.  We have an outstanding program, as well as an administration that supports our young student needs.  This week was energy-filled and we truly enjoyed spotlighting our preschoolers, and the visits from our special guests.”
