School District 146 Hosts South Cook Division Spelling Bee

Tinley Park School District 146 Hosted Regional Spelling Bee

The South Cook ISC 4 Scripps Spelling Bee was held Wednesday, February 13th, at Central Middle School in Tinley Park, IL, and D146 was well-represented by Jennifer, a 7th grade CMS student, who had won the districtwide competition earlier in January.  This was the 2nd year that the D146 voluntarily hosted the regional event.

Jennifer brilliantly represented D146 against the top 37 winners from other South Cook school districts in the area, but the final word proved to be a bit too challenging for her.  The final word was “Ersatz”, an adjective of German origin, defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “being a usually artificial and inferior substitute or imitation”.

“Jennifer did a fantastic job representing D146”, Mrs. Nancy Schwab, Director of Curriculum, said. “She looked confident and poised throughout the event. Her final word was a tough one, and she gave it her best try.  We are extremely proud of her.”
