School District 146 Hosts South Cook Division Spelling Bee

School District 146 Hosts South Cook Division Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Central Middle School 7th grader, Jennifer. She did a great job representing South Cook ISC 4 Scripps Spelling Bee held Wednesday, February 13th, at Central Middle School.

School District 146 participated in the Annual Scripps Spelling Bee, which allows students grades 3-8 to compete.  All five district schools held their own competition, and the elementaries produced two winners each, while Central Middle School produced three.

In January, D146 held a follow-up Spelling Bee where the individual school winners continued to show off their spelling talents in hopes of becoming the D146 Spelling Bee Champ, and allowing them to move onto the next round. The competition offers the students a chance to show off their spelling skills not just at the local level, but a chance to compete at the national level.

Jennifer was the named the School District 146 winner on January 24th, allowing her to move onto the next tournament.  Jennifer competed against the top 37 winners from other school districts in the South Cook County area.

The final word that proved to be a bit too challenging for Jennifer was “ersatz”, an adjective of German origin, defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “being a usually artificial and inferior substitute or imitation.” (Admittedly, this author was forced to lookup the word for its meaning.)

“Jennifer did a fantastic job representing D146”, Mrs. Nancy Schwab, Director of Curriculum, said. “She looked confident and poised throughout the event. Her final word was a tough one, and she gave it her best try.  We are extremely proud of her.”

Turns out it was a minor crash, according to state police. No one was injured enough to require aRead More trip in an ambulance. Two cars were involved in the collision, which happened at about 2 p.m.

I'd also contact whichever bank has this in foreclosure. If they're the legal owners, then they'reRead More responsible. Maybe the threat of a lawsuit if someone gets sick or injured might prompt them to take action.

The problem is that nobody knows or can locate the bank who owns this property. I have contacted aRead More friend of mine whom is a realtor and there saying it's owned by HUD! Well good luck getting in touch with them!

We too live in Parkside and I couldn't agree with you more! I love your sign! I have a three yearRead More old and I refuse to let him play on the last 15 feet of the driveway due to the speeding cars. Maybe a speed bump?!

We've looked into a speed bump too. Make yourself a sign, call the Tinley Police and ask for theRead More electronic monitoring sign, call the village and complain, and be pro-active. Someone from the village saw my sign and has informed me that the village will be putting up speed limit signs and caution - kids playing signs this week. Good luck!!
