D146 Fierke Education Center In Planning Phase

School District 146’s Fierke Education Center in Oak Forest, IL has begun the process of moving towards a new student drop-off/pick-up area.

The District’s architects have now been involved. They are being asked to draw up the plans that would:

  • allow for the greatest degree of safety for our students
  • introduce a good traffic flow for the drop-off/pick-up vehicles
  • separate bus traffic from parent vehicle traffic

Mr. Jeff Charleston, Director of Business Services at D146, addressed the current status of the project, “The District has officially begun our planning process for the new area at Fierke. We will wait for the architect to draw plans, review them and then present them to our Board of Education for approval. Once we have the approval on the architectural drawings, we then will move forward and go to bid for the project. The Board of Education will review the bid results, and they must at that point approve or deny the bid.  After that final Board of Education approval we will then physically start the project.  We are excited that the process is underway.”

Mr. Charleston reiterated that D146’s #1 priority is, and always will be the safety of the students and families. “And again, the Board’s hope is to start the actual work next summer and we look to finish just prior to school starting in fall 2014.”
