District 146 in Area Math Bowl

Sixteen students from School District 146 competed in the 2014 South Cook Math Bowl, which was held on May 1 and 2 at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights. Students competed against their same-grade peers from about 20 local school districts. Students also competed as a four-student district team according to their multi-grade divisions. District 146 was well represented at the event as well as in the awards. 

 

Gunnar Lindich (Memorial) earned the first grade 6th place award. Michelle Broers (Memorial) earned the second grade 3rd place award. Gunnar and Michelle teamed with first grader Alex Roberts (Fulton) and second grader Nick D'Ambrosio (Fierke) to win the 3rd place team award from among all those in Division A.

Evan Lukac (Fulton) earned the third grade 5th place award. Jack Day (Kruse) earned the fourth grade 4th place award. Evan and Jack teamed with third grader Alex Day (Kruse) and fourth grader Amanda Zbonski (Fulton) to win the 2nd place team award from among all those in Division B. Jack Day was also named District 146's MVP at the May 1 event. 

Fifth graders Todd Bajzek (Memorial) and Ayden Ward (Fulton) teamed with sixth graders John Roth and Erik Zawada (both Central) to win the 4th place team award from among all those in Division C.

Sean Ford (CMS) earned the seventh grade 2nd place award. Sean teamed with seventh grader Katie Sanders and eighth graders Nathan Soyk and Danielle Barry (all CMS) to win the 5th place team award from among all those in Division D. Nathan Soyk was also named District 146's MVP at the May 2 event.
