District 146’s Memorial School’s “Running For Reilly” 5k

Memorial School will be sponsoring a 5k run/walk and a 1 mile “fun run/walk”, benefiting the family of Mark Reilly, the 5th grade teacher from Memorial School that passed away in November, 2013.

Mr. Mike Donovan, Principal at Memorial, said, “As our staff and students very well knew, Mark Reilly was an amazing runner. He ran numerous marathons including Chicago and Boston. Memorial School is a close-knit family and Mark’s death has been a difficult one.  The Memorial staff was looking for a great idea as a fundraiser for Mark’s family. Our teachers want to honor his memory and running legacy, and I think that creating a 5k in his memory was very appropriate.”

The run/walk will be held on Saturday, May 31 with a start time of 8am.  The cost is $25 per person for the 5k or $40 per family. Each participant will receive a race t-shirt.

Sarah Searcy, a Memorial teacher working on the event said, “The 5k run/walk route will be held on Central Middle School property.  The 5K run/walk begins at 8:00 a.m., and the 1 mile ‘fun run/walk’ will take place at 10:00 a.m.  Parents have been signing up with their children so they can do the event together. It will be a great family day to remember.”

The deadline to register is Friday, May 16.

Ms. Searcy said, “Mark is missed daily at Memorial. For us to take time to put together this 5k fundraiser in his memory was the least we could do. He was an amazing person, leader, father and educator. That is why we are Running for Reilly.”
