School District 146 CMS Student Wins School-Wide Spelling Bee

At the March 11 School District 146 Board of Education Meeting, President John Malloy presented Central Middle School student Mohammad Shaikh with a Recognition Award for his 1st place finish in the D146 Spelling Bee in February. Mohammad, a 6th grader, stood before the crowd where he received a lengthy round of applause.  “We are so proud of our students,” said President Malloy, “and we want to honor their achievements.  This is a very worthy recognition and accomplishment.  Mohammad’s 1st place finish in this year’s Bee was quite admirable.”

Mohammad’s current 6th grade reading teacher, Mr. Doug Wernet, had this to say when he learned of the 1st place title, “Mohammad’s pursuit of academic achievement is second to none. Considering his work ethic and commitment, it’s no surprise he performed brilliantly at the spelling bee competition.”

Media Center Director, Anne Jackson, from Fulton School was thrilled but not surprised at the 1st place finish by her former student, “I was delighted to learn that Mohammad had won the District 146 Spelling Bee.  He was a very familiar face in the Fulton Media Center; always on the lookout for the next great book to read.  He is so bright, works so hard, and has such a supportive family.  And speaking of his family, Mohammad’s two younger sisters both made it to the final round of the Fulton School Spelling Bee!”
