School District 146 Young Author Winners Named

School District 146 is pleased to announce the District winners chosen to attend and represent D146 at the 40th Annual Young Authors Conference held at Illinois State University in Normal, IL on May 17.

Mrs. Lisa Carlson, Reading Specialist at Fierke Education Center, one of the judges involved with the program said, “This is a creative writing competition. The student writes a story or poem and submits it before the deadline date in February.  It is highly popular competition with our District students. Fierke had an overwhelming two-thirds of our 350 students participating.”

Mrs. Carlson said, “After the first round of school winners are determined by the individual schools, certified teachers-judges then gather to choose four overall to represent D146 at the ISU Conference. Students in grade levels K-8 participate.  It’s a very fun and exciting process for the students and the teachers.”

The four students chosen represent School District 146 at the conference are: Gracie Graham (Fierke), Fiona Duncan (Kruse), Chris Panepinto (Fierke), and Maria Manta (Central).
