· An extremely divided board approved a resolution that determined the estimate of the annual aggregate levy for next years budget.  The proposed levy sought a multi-million dollar increase over the amount approved from the prior year.  The Democrat caucus offered an amendment to increase property taxes by the amount of $900,000.  The members of the Republican caucus, including this board member, vehemently opposed any increase in property taxes.  A roll call vote was taken which resulted in 12 Democrats voting in favor of the increase and 12 Republicans voting in the negative, with one Republican voting “present.”  Because the vote was a tie, the deciding vote could only be broken by the County Executive, Larry Walsh, who is a Democrat.  Mr. Walsh voted in favor of the property tax increase.

· The Board unanimously approved a resolution at the recommendation of the Judicial Committee authorizing the County Executive to execute professional services contract for a second Administrative Adjudication Hearing Officer with James Fessler.  Mr. Fessler will oversee hearings relating to complaints brought by the land use committee regarding Will County ordinance violations.

The next Will County Board meeting is Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the County Board Room, 2nd Floor of the Will County Office Building located at 302 N. Chicago Street, Joliet, Illinois.  All Will County residents are invited to attend.
