Andrew HS Volley for the Cure is Oct 15

The Andrew Girls Volleyball Program, in conjunction with the IHSA and The Chicagoland Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, will be hosting a “Volley for the Cure” event on Tuesday October 15, 2013.  Freshman and sophomore levels play at 4:30 pm with Varsity to start directly after the sophomore match.  All levels will be competing against Thornwood High School.

Volley for the cure was created as a way to honor and celebrate the heroic fight against breast cancer.  The promotion is dedicated to all the men and women who have been touched by breast cancer with the hopes that this devastating disease will one day be cured.  (www.ihsa.org)

Some of the events that will be taking place are:

  • Quick facts will be presented during daily school announcements one week before October 15th regarding the fundraising event and breast cancer awareness.
  • A moment of silence will be observed for Breast Cancer Victims and their families at the game.  We will also acknowledge/honor all Breast Cancer survivors prior to the start of the varsity match.
  • All levels of girls’ volleyball will be wearing a pink top (donated by Andrew Volleyball).  We also encourage anyone coming to the game to wear pink or purchase a fundraising t-shirt.
  • Any PINK t-shirts purchased with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Koman are encouraged to be worn during the night of the event to “Pack the Place in Pink”.
  • Instead of charging admittance to the match, we will be asking for a donation at the gate to be given to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
  • Raffles will also be occurring throughout the matches.

We would like to extend this invitation to the entire Tinley Park community and beyond.  If you or someone you know has been affected by breast cancer and would like to be a part of this event, please contact Coach Courtney Stoub at 708-342-5800 ext. 4254 or at cstoub@d230.org.
