Police Blotter: Credit Card Fraud; Thief Shoplifts Almost $1,000 Worth of Watches

TUESDAY, AUG. 30

Credit Card Fraud

A 31-year-old woman called police after she realized someone had been using her debit card without her permission. When she went to make a small purchase, her card was declined, according to the report. A bank teller told her the account was $1,500 overdrawn. Although she signed an affidavit at the bank, said they were unable to investigate the purchases because they were made outside of their jurisdiction — two in Schaumburg and two in Niles, totaling $1,509.55

Police: Man Smashes Flower Pots, Resists Arrest

Matthew E. Rudis, 18, of the 8600 block of Carriage Lane in Tinley Park, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. near his home after police said he damaged property there. Rudis also broke a garage window on purpose, according to the report, because a relative refused to give him money. When police went to arrest Rudis, he sent a German shepherd after the officers, the report said. He also resisted arrest until an officer threatened him with a Taser, according to the report. He was charged with criminal damage to property and resisting a peace officer.

Battery

Gerald J. Vassel, 18, of the 18200 block of South 66th Avenue in Tinley Park, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. at Tinley Park High School. Police said Vassel pushed a girl during an argument in the school's parking lot.

TUESDAY, AUG. 16

$1,000 Worth of Watches Gone

Police were called to Burlington Coat Factory, 7061 159th St., Tinley Park, where a loss prevention officer told them that on Aug. 7 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. a woman took 24 Kenneth Cole watches from the store. The officer hadn't reviewed the video footage until more than a week after the fact, but said the items totaled $959.76. He said she also stuffed several pieces of lingerie in her purse, according to the report.
