System Screw-Up Leads to Unexpected Account Charges for Some I-PASS Customers

The Illinois Tollway's I-PASS replenishment system suffered a computer glitch this morning. You may want to check your credit and debit account activity.

If you're an I-PASS holder, you may see unexpected charges to your debit or credit card after a glitch in the system this morning caused a cycle of account charges.

The Illinois Tollway issued a notice about the error around 11 a.m. saying that employees are working hard to correctly refund any unnecessary charges and are working with banks to ensure customers don't incur overdraft fees as a result of the computer problem.

"The Tollway is working to proactively alert customers who may have been impacted by the software issue," the notice said. "We apologize to our I-PASS customers who may have been surprised by this account activity … "

Customers who see an incorrect charge on their account are encouraged to call the I-PASS customer call center at 1-800-UC-IPASS with questions.
