Two Converging Storms Will Lead to Mixed Rain and Wet Snow Tonight

The National Weather Service is predicting between 6 and 7 inches of snow tonight into morning and nasty conditions overall.

The National Weather Service is predicting that two storm systems will cross paths Thursday night, making a slippery mess of wet snow and rain until Friday morning.

Snowfall for is expected to be around 6 to 7 inches.

NWS says northern suburban Cook County will be hit harder with snow than the south, but drivers should still be very cautious this evening.

AN AREA OF RAIN AND MIXED RAIN AND WET SNOW ACROSS FAR NORTHERN ILLINOIS WILL EXPAND AND INCREASE IN INTENSITY THIS EVENING...CHANGING TO ALL SNOW FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST THROUGH LATE EVENING. SNOW WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES...ESPECIALLY IN THE HOURS JUST AFTER CHANGEOVER...AND MAY BE ACCOMPANIED BY THUNDER. THIS ENHANCED BAND OF SNOW WILL BE THE MOST FAVORED LOCATION FOR HIGHER SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN THE 6 TO 7 INCH RANGE.

The snow is expected to fall heaviest after 8 p.m., at a rate greater than an inch an hour.

The winter weather advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Friday.
