UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorms Hit South Suburbs

The National Weather Service says quarter-sized hail is possible in one line of storms. Southern Cook County is under a severe thunderstorm warning.

Rain could continue, especially after midnight, as a line of storms move through the south suburbs. 

The National Weather Service announced at 9:46 p.m. that a line of thunderstorms extending from Chatham to Mokena is moving east at 20 mph. Some areas could see quarter-sized hail. Damaging winds of up to 60 mph are possible.

Overnight, it will remain mostly cloudy with a low around 64 in . New rainfall could be as much as one-half to three quarters of an inch.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in affect for Cook County and much of the Chicago suburbs.

For Friday, there's a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high is forecast as 76.
