Dawn Palecek, sister of Tamatha Otero (née Herring), whose family lost their house and belongings after a fire gutted their townhouse in the 6800 block of Brementowne Drive on Aug. 28, will be accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at her home, 16845 Sayre Ave., Tinley Park. Donations of clothes, household items, gift cards, gas cards and money will be accepted, Palecek told Patch in an email.

The clothing sizes for the family member are as follows:

  • Tamatha Otero: 15, pants; XL, shirt
  • Otero's husband: 30-32, pants; L, shirt
  • 6-year-old girl: 10-12; size 2, shoes
  • 4-year-old boy: 5T; size 2, shoes

"My heart is filled with so much love from our community," Palecek said, adding that she and her sister have lived in the village all their lives. "I can't help [my sister] out too much. This is my way of helping. She will probably end up staying with me for a while until they find a place."

Residents unable to stop by Wednesday, Sept. 4, can contact Palecek by phone (708-513-8767), email (medicdawn35@gmail.com) or her Facebook page, which she has opened to the public, to make other arrangements.

Donated items that can't be used by the family will be donated to Together We Cope, a nonprofit organization in Tinley Park that helps south suburban families in crisis, Palecek said.
