Celebrate Easter With Flowers, Family and Friends!

Brighten up your Easter holiday with Easter Flowers!

Easter is falling early this Sunday. Have you noticed all the blooming trees and blossoms? Natures beauty and another reminder of Spring being in the air with all the natural renewal beauty we see all around us.

Each family has their own traditions. Some stay home and prepare a nice dinner and some travel. Some will adorn their tables with beautiful fresh florals, some with a basket of pretty eggs. Some will go to church wearing those very pretty cymbidium corsages! But most importantly, Easter is a time for celebrating Life and Love.

When I was growing up, I always remember Easter as being a beautiful sunny day! My Mom used to sew and I remember her making me some pretty dresses. One of my favorites was a yellow Easter outfit with a bonnet and since yellow has always been my favorite color (it's a happy sunshiny color) it was my favorite. We had blooming tulips and daffodils which I see all around me today.

Today (Sunday) was a special day. My husband Dennis and I was honored when we were asked to help decorate the "inside" of the most beautiful train stations I've ever seen, for families to bring their children to get pictures with the Easter Bunny.

It was a joy to see all the festivities and all the smiles on their faces. Oh the excitement! All the tables were so brightly decorated with the prettiest mini daffodil pots with pretty easter grass as well as some fresh floral arrangements sitting around the bunny. The kids all entered through the beautiful Easter trellis. The event was sponsored by businesses on Oak Park Avenue in the downtown area.

If you receive or treat yourself to a potted Lily, they will need bright, indirect natural daylight; direct, bright sunlight can cause burning issues. Potted Easter lilies (Lilium longiflorum) can be planted in the garden after all danger of frost; this should be done after the flowers have withered away. Plant Easter Lilies in a sunny location; make sure the bed is well drained, organically rich and mulched. Easter lilies like to have their roots shaded; mulch will help shade the roots.

Indoors the potted Easter Lilies require a medium moisture level and must not be allowed to stand in water for any length of time. Once the Easter Lily is planted in the garden it should be watered freely during the active growth period and kept towards the moist side during the winter.

Potted Easter Lilies prefer a cool temperature around 65degrees Fahrenheit during the day and slightly cooler at night. Exposure to wide temperature changes is detrimental to the Easter Lily. They do not like drafts from doors or exposure to excessive heat or dry air; keep away from air ducts. In the garden Easter Lilies can live in Zones 7 to 9. Temperatures in these zone range from a maximum cold of 0 degrees Fahrenheit to multiple days over 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

For vegetative propagation remove scales, offsets, or bulblets as the foliage dies down in the summer. These can be stored for later planting or immediately planted in new areas.

For Fresh Easter Flower Arrangements, proper care for longevity is to add water daily. As flowers expire, take them out of the arrangement since they send off an ethylene gas that destroys the other flowers in the arrangement. Caring for fresh flowers is simple and the rewards are worth it!
