CAN YOUR KIDS REACH THEIR TOYS?

We want to encourage our children to play and read, so we need to make sure they can reach their toys and books.  And when our kids are done playing and reading, we want to make sure they can also put things away!

Keep toys and book storage on your child’s level.  Low and open shelves are great for book storage, and for shallow baskets for your kids to stash their toys.  Depending on your child’s age, label the baskets with pictures of the items inside (like Legos or doll accessories) or words (“cars”, “blocks”, “trains”) to encourage reading skills.

Clear containers are great for kid toys, too, so your child can see what is in a container without having to dump the whole thing!  Keep your child’s play space safe by keeping containers small enough for your child to move around by themselves.  We don’t want boxes of books falling on any heads!

Regularly review and purge broken toys, or toys your child has outgrown.  Make this a habit you complete together, to encourage a life-long habit of keeping clutter to a minimum.
