It Amazes Me that People Vote for Politicians who are Trying to Kill Them.

H.L. Mencken is credited with the famous quote “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.” Obamacare opponents long for the bad old days when over 25%  of family bankruptcies were caused by medical emergencies. Before Obamacare over 45,000 people annually died because they had junk insurance or no insurance. Free healthcare clinics are closing today, because they are losing their indigent patients to expanded Medicaid, Medicare and Obamacare. Today over 25 million seniors have healthcare through Medicare, which would cost them on average over $29,000 per year in premiums through private insurance.  Democrats passed Medicare over a vicious fight put up by Ronald Reagan and Republicans in Congress who voted against Medicare in the 1960s. Life expectancies today for people my age is 84.  Before Medicare, it was 68 for Whites, and 58 for African Americans. Over 1/3rd of my friends and relatives would be dead today without Medicare, because they did not have the money to pay $25,000-$35,000 per person per year for health care premiums.  Yet Republicans, via Ryan’s voucher plan, are still trying to kill seniors by destroying Medicare.  Bobby Jindal said, Republicans have got to stop being the party of stupid, and then he does something mega-stupid by obstructing healthcare and killing some of his constituents. Mencken was so right.
