And the Winners of the Patch Mother's Day Contest Are ...

It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it. Two Patch editors and a representative from Amato Salon and Spa name the top three entries in Patch's 'Mommy Needs a Makeover' contest.

Our Patch readers sure love their moms. We asked you to share what makes mom special, and many of you plucked at heartstrings across the Southland with your entries. After weeks of our contest, the Patch panel of judges was left with the daunting task of choosing a grand prize winner.

After much deliberation and a few "aww's", some sniffles and a bunch of tissues, the judges narrowed it down to the top three.

1st Place, Winner of a salon and spa package valued at $450, (courtesy of  in Tinley Park): Kerry Nolan, on behalf of Mary Nolan

Here's what Kerry had to say about her mom, Mary.

My mom (Mary Nolan) has been my rock for my entire life – and my sister’s, and my brother’s, and her siblings’, and my grandparents’, and her friends’, etc. Every single thing she does, she does it with her whole heart and every ounce of effort she has. My dad was very sick for a long time, and he just passed away in March. She was by his side for every treatment, surgery, all good and bad news, and every appointment he had, all while managing to raise 3 (pretty awesome) kids

2nd Place, Winner of a personal fitness package from Body by Reggie and a bouquet from : Krista Attreau

Here's what Krista had to say about her mom.

My rock, my conscience, my guide, my best friend and the glue that holds our family together. I have the utmost respect and admiration for my Mom. I don’t think many people realize just what a Mom is until you become a parent and can truly appreciate everything she did for you and continues to do for you (even at 40-something). My mom was a young widow (38 years old) with three children to raise, insurmountable medical bills from my Dad’s illness, and a minimum wage job at the time. While we grew up a little quicker than most of our friends, our Mom made our lives as carefree and happy as she could. She showed us through her hard work and determination that we, too, could survive anything that came our way.

3rd Place, Winner of a bouquet from : Chip Valecek

Chip's says it better than a paragraph could.

Congratulations winners, and thank you to all participants.
