2013 Scholarship Applications Now Available at Orland Township

Even though I am well aware of how many talented students we have within this township, each year, I am still taken aback by the achievements of those who apply to the Orland Township Scholarship program.

An abundance of applications are delivered to the office filled with the highest GPAs, lists of time consuming extracurricular activities and staggeringly high amounts of selfless volunteer hours. As you can imagine, our scholarship committee is not faced with any easy task of selecting recipients.

The time is once again here for a new batch of outstanding students to have their achievements recognized. As the price of a college education continues to rise, we are pleased to offer this financial opportunity.

Scholarship applications are now available at the township, 14807 S. Ravinia Avenue. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Applications can also be accessed at www.orlandtwp.org.

22 scholarships will be awarded in 2013: one $2,000 scholarship, eight $1,000 scholarships and 13 $500 scholarships.

The scholarship selection committee will review each application, taking into strong consideration the applicant’s leadership skills, community service completion, academics, extracurricular activity, recommendations, references and an assigned essay question response.

We also have scholarship applications available at the township for the Township Officials of Illinois Scholarship. Both scholarships are due by Friday, March 1, 2013. These scholarship opportunities are a great way to have one’s hard work recognized and to take some of the financial strain off of a college education. Good luck to all who apply.
