$1,200 Cell Phone Bill Surprises Tinley Park Man

A credit check conducted by a Tinley Park resident showed a massive cell phone bill on an account opened by someone else.

A Tinley Park resident recently discovered that someone had run up a nearly $1,300 cell phone bill in his name after a making a routine credit check.

Tinley Park police spoke with the 33-year-old victim of the identity theft at about 5:53 p.m on Oct. 31, according to a report.

The U.S. Cellular account was opened up in his name by someone whom he did not know, the report states. The Tinley Park man discovered the fraud through a credit check in August. The account totaled $1,269.91.

The victim of the identity theft already had notified U.S. Cellular Service Fraud Claim before speaking with police, the report states. He was told that U.S. Cellular needs a police report to proceed with the investigation.

Police said the victim did not want to press charges.
