Airbags Stolen from 21 Cars in Dealership Parking Lot

21 SUVs and cars were burglarized in a dealership parking lot, with the thief(s) making off with more than $15,000 worth of air bag mechanisms. Police are investigating the incident.

An unknown suspect or suspects made off with 21 air bag mechanisms from various SUV and cars between Jan. 12 and Jan. 14, from Rizza GMC, 8415 159th Street. Each of the airbag mechanisms is valued at approximately $750, totaling about $15,750 in stolen goods being taken from the dealership.

At the business, police spoke with an assistant manager, who said there is usually a night watch check to ensure vehicles are properly locked and secured, but that the check is not 100 percent accurate. He also said that the airbag mechanisms can be removed with two small rods and that no specific skill is required to remove them.

There was no apparent pattern to the burglaries, though all of the vehicles that were burglarized were on periphery lots of the business.
