Apartment Burglary Bewilders Residents

Tinley Park police are investigating a local apartment break-in, reports said.

Police said a family in the 7500 block of 175th Street in was baffled Saturday by the theft of two of their TVs.

Cops were called to the home around 8:20 a.m. that day, about 20 minutes after one of the home's residents woke up to find a 49-inch television and a 32-inch television missing from the apartment. The TVs were valued at $800 and $400, respectively, the report said.

One resident said he was playing Wii on the larger TV until around 3 a.m. He then went to sleep in a room he shares with his sister. He told police the two are light sleepers.

The family's dog—it usually barks when anyone comes into the residence—was quiet throughout the night, and a burglar would have had to open doors that regularly creak to get to the televisions.

"I observed the top shelving where both the televisions were originally sitting," the report said. "There was undisturbed dust on the surface surrounding where the base of the televisions were. There was no indication that the televisions were slid across the surface, but rather picked straight up."

The family compromised the scene before police arrived by going in and out of the front door, the report said. Other valuable items such as medication, DVD players and a Wii game console, were not taken.

"The (family was) mystified as to how their televisions were taken," the report said.
