Accused Drunken Driver Called Cops 'Nice' While Under Arrest: Blotter

A Tinley Park driver found slumped over the wheel of her car was accused of being under the influence of alcohol.

Etta S. Liddell-Walker, 46, of the 59000 block of Lane Bluff, Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence, illegally transporting alcohol, driving with a suspended license and obstructing an intersection, according to a report.

Cops responded to a report of a driver slumped over the wheel of a car at about 7:09 p.m. on Nov. 11 near the intersection of 167th Street and Lakewood, the report states. Police found a silver Hyundai stopped in the left turn lane, which three cars stuck behind it.

The driver, Liddell-Walker, was slumped over the wheel but somehow still pressing the brake while the car was running and in gear, the report states. Cops tried to wake her, but all four doors were locked. Fearing Etta was in need of medical attention, police broke the passenger-side window and unlocked the doors.

Paramedics arrived and took her to South Suburban Hospital for treatment, the report states. Before paramedics left the scene, police told Liddell-Walker that she was under arrest.

While she was being treated, police searched Liddell-Walker's purse and found a half-empty pint of UV vodka, the report states.

Police eventually were able to speak with Liddell-Walker, who said they were "very nice" and that she was surprised they were "this nice to people they arrested," the report states.

Liddell-Walker is due on Dec. 19 in Bridgeview court.
