Armed Robber Steals Ring Off Man's Hand

Police say a man who had his face covered and was possibly armed with a 9 mm pistol robbed another who was outside his car in Tinley Park over the weekend, stealing a wad of cash and a diamond ring.

were called early Friday morning to the 7000 block of Century Court in  where a man was robbed at gunpoint for a bundle of cash and a diamond ring he was wearing.

The 26-year-old victim said he was returning from a movie in Country Club Hills at the time of the robbery, which was about 2:30 a.m. His vehicle was parked in his driveway, the report said.

"He had dropped his cell phone between the seats of his (vehicle) … and as he was standing in his driveway leaning into the driver's side door to search for his phone, he felt someone grab his arm," an officer wrote, in the report.

He turned to find a black man who had a stocky, 200-pound build and was around 5 feet 10 inches tall, the report said. The man was wearing a white shirt over his face, according to the report.

"The subject displayed a black handgun in his left hand, possibly a 9 mm, and pointed it (at the victim)," the report said. "The subject said 'Don't (f-ing) move' and grabbed a ring off (the victim's) hand."

The ring was white gold and had several small diamonds around the band, the report said. The man then demanded that the victim give him "the money." The victim, who told police he doesn't ordinarily carry so much cash, handed the robber between $1,300 and $1,400, according to the report. 

The robber then fled and joined another man who was waiting in the street. He also had his faced covered using a T-shirt, police said. The case remained under investigation July 2 and Cmndr. Steve Vacarro didn't immediately return a voice mail message left shortly before 4 p.m.
