Bags With Thousands in Cash Snatched From Van: Blotter

An Orland-based small business owner was ripped off after 20 bags with anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 in them were taken while he was shopping for groceries, police report.

Twenty bags filled with thousands of dollars in cash were taken from a service van Saturday, according to a Tinley Park police report.

The owner of an Orland Park-based vending company told police between $2,000 and $3,000 was taken while his work van was parked Saturday, June 1, in the parking lot at Sam’s Club, 16100 S. Harlem Ave., the report stated.

The man went into the retail warehouse club at about 2 p.m. and returned about 45 minutes later to find the van’s alarm sounding, the report continued. He found the driver’s side door had been damaged and told police that's how he thinks whoever took the money might have broken in. Investigators confirmed possible damage inside the door lock, the report stated.

The bags of money had been inside a plastic tote in the van's center console, the report stated. Each bag had $100 to $150 inside, the report continued. A black and blue duffel bag full of hand tools also was stolen, the report stated.

Police report information is provided by the Tinley Park Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt.
