Block Partier Charged With DUI After Found Doubled Over in Car

David Kaucky, 35, of Tinley Park, faces two counts of drunken driving, police said.

A Tinley Park man is in trouble with the law after he was reportedly seen slumped over in the driver's seat twice while returning home from the weekend block party.

David Kaucky, 35, of the 6700 block of 181st Street, Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, Tinley Park police said.

A Tinley Park deputy fire chief called police Sunday to report seeing a man slumped over the steering wheel of a car stopped on Harlem Avenue. When the deputy chief turned around to help, the man sat up and drove away.

Cops found the 2004 Buick a short time later, police said. The driver, Kaucky, was slumped over again, this time while waiting at a red light at about 7:32 p.m. Sunday, July 21, near the 7100 block of 183rd Street. The Buick crept into the intersection as an officer tried to pull it over.

When the car finally did stop, Kaucky told officers he was driving home from the village's Caribbean Block Party along Oak Park Avenue, police said. He spoke with slurred speech and had an odor of alcohol on his breath. Kaucky said he had been drinking that night.

After attempting tests for intoxication, Kaucky was arrested and booked on DUI charges, police said. In custody, Kaucky registered a 0.194 during a breath test. He was released after posting bond and given a Aug. 23 court date.

They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
