Blotter: A Torched Flag, Bike in a Pond, and More

MONDAY, JULY 16
A Torched Flag
A resident of the 16700 block of South Odell Avenue called the cops around 7:30 a.m., when she noticed that someone had started her American flag on fire. The flag was attached to a pole and mounted in a bracket on the east side of her home, according to the report.
The flag was found "totally incinerated" and police said the bushes beneath it were slightly burnt. The woman said she went to sleep July 15 around 11 a.m. and didn't notice anything unusual. Neighbors' flag poles remained in tact.

Glass Shattered
A resident in the 6500 block of 163rd Place in said that overnight, someone shattered a glass pane to his sliding patio door, as well as a glass window leading to the basement. A large landscaping brick was found lying next to the door, according to the report. Nothing was missing from the home.
Bike in a Pond
Police said they found a blue girls' Schwinn mountain bike in the retention pond on the south side of 174th Street near Locust Avenue in .

SUNDAY, JULY 15
Ex-Wife Steals Car
A man called the cops after his 2006 Chrysler 300 was stolen from his apartment building in the 17300 block of South 70th Avenue in . The man said he believed his ex-wife took the vehicle. It was locked at the time of the theft.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 11
Battery
Kevin P. Mcerlean, 38, of the 18100 block of Sayre Avenue in , was arrested around 8:55 p.m. in the 17900 block of Royal Oak Court and charged with battery.
Leaving the Scene
Flavio V. Perez, 20, of the 5000 block of West 159th Street in Oak Forest, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. at an unspecified location and charged with driving without a valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
