Blotter: Boys Chuck Rocks at Cars on Harlem; Burglar Snags Video Games

SUNDAY, MARCH 25

Shoplifters at Kmart

Two shoplifters made off without paying for items in a cart that they pushed past registers at Kmart. Police said the crime was reported by a cashier at the Harlem Avenue store, who said he saw two girls shopping together around 5 p.m. The cart they were pushing was partially filled with items.

The cashier then saw one of the girls walk out of the store by herself. Shortly afterward, the second girl pushed the cart out the doors without paying for the items. The employee was able to give police a license plate number and description of both the suspects, as well as the make and model of the vehicle they drove away in. No arrests had yet been made as of Monday.

SATURDAY, MARCH 24 

Warrant Arrest, Improper Registration

Police arrested Colleen K. Hynes, 30, of the 900 block of Neufairfield Drive in Joliet, on a failure-to-appear warrant out of Will County for driving on a suspended license. She was also charged with improper registration and driving on a suspended license.

Boys Chuck Rocks at Cars on Harlem

A woman called the cops around 3 p.m., shortly after her Mustang got hit with a rock while she was driving down Harlem Avenue in . The driver said the rock hit the windshield of the vehicle and caused significant damage to it.

Shattered glass entered the passenger side of the car, said. The woman pulled over in the 16300 block of Harlem and saw two boys, ages 12 to 14 hunkered down in a grassy area and throwing rocks at cars. The boys were wearing red shirts and dark colored shorts, police said. Sheriff's deputies looked for but didn't find them.

FRIDAY, MARCH 23 

Burglar Takes Off With Video Games

Burglars made their way in through the patio door of an Arcadia Drive home last week, where they reportedly stole video games, consoles and game controllers.

Police said someone entered the residence between 7:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. The thief, or thieves, snagged about a dozen Wii and XBox 360 video games, as well as an XBox 360 game console. 

"The victim believes the unknown offender entered through the patio door, as several scratch marks were on the door and jam," the report said. A laptop computer sitting on the sofa in the living room wasn't disturbed. The case remained under investigation Monday. 

DUI Accident

Pablo L. Granado, 28, of the 17100 block of Valley Drive in Tinley Park was charged with driving under the influence, driving with blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08, failure to reduce speed to avoid accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Police said he failed field sobriety and breath tests after sideswiping a car at 159th Street and Oak Park Avenue around 7:30 p.m.
