Blotter: Funny Money Used at CarMax, $10,000 Jewelry Collection Missing

FRIDAY, APRIL 6

Funny Money Used at CarMax 

said a $100 counterfeit bill was found among other $100 bills used around 4:30 p.m. at CarMax, 18800 S. Oak Park Ave., , as part of a $2,500 car payment. The woman who handed the cash over said she withdrew the money from an area bank and wasn't aware any bills were counterfeit. The fake $100 was turned over to the U.S. Secret Service, the report said.

DUI Charge

Bruce Galassini, 42, of the 18000 block of Hillside Drive in , was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane use. New Lenox police responded to a car accident near Cedar Road and Route 6 and said they discovered Galassini had been drinking. Neither Galassini nor the driver of the other car were injured.

THURSDAY, APRIL 5 

Fraudulent Account Charges 

A man called to report that during a two-day period, someone spent $3,701.90 of his money without his permission. The man said he believed the person used his debit card to make the purchases, though the card remained in his possession when he made the report on Thursday. Purchases range from $10 to $322 and were made at Forever 21, Chipotle, Starbucks, True Value, Dairy Queen, Chili's, and other area businesses, the report said. The man said the damage was done on April 4 and 5.

$10,000 Jewelry Collection Missing

A woman living in the 6200 block of West 177th Street in reported that sometime between March 29 and April 5, someone stole several pieces of jewelry from a box in her bedroom. Missing were pearl and diamond earrings, a class ring, a diamond ring, a wedding ring set, and more. The value of the missing items totaled about $10,750, according to the report. The woman said she and her husband haven't had guests over in several weeks. There was no evidence of forced entry to the home, said.
