Blotter: Illegal Transportation of Busch Beer; Snatched Lottery Tickets Get Cashed

Also in today's blotter, a bottle of Adderall is taken from a school nurse's office and a man walking his dog stumbles upon an interesting box in the park. These are the Tinley Park police reports from Feb. 14-16, 18 and 20.

MONDAY, FEB. 20

Credit Card Fraud 

A woman told local police Monday that sometime between Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, her wallet was stolen from her Burbank home. Two of her Chase bank cards were used to make unauthorized purchases at the CVS, on the corner of 167th Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park, according to the report. One of the purchases totaled $199.95 and the other, $49.73.

DUI, Illegal Transportation of Busch Beer

Robert J. Zieler, 57, of the 100 block of South 6th Street in Benld, was arrested around 11:10 a.m. near the intersection of 159th Street and 76th Avenue in Tinley Park, where he was reportedly driving "down the middle of the roadway" with his left turn signal on when he wasn't turning.

Zieler also had a cracked windshield, police said. When stopped, officers smelled alcohol on Zieler's breath, according to the report, and he admitted to having "a few beers." One of the officers spotted two cans of Busch beer on the vehicle's floorboard.

Officers also found a bottle of Lorazepam in the vehicle and when asked about it, Zieler told them "talk to my lawyer," the report said. Zieler reportedly failed field sobriety tests and refused to give a breath sample. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving a vehicle with a defective windshield and improper use of a turn signal.

THURSDAY, FEB. 16

Warrant Arrest

John F. Woods, 39, of the 100 block of Nashua Street in Park Forest, was arrested around 11:20 a.m. in the 19000 block of Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park, on two failure-to-appear warrants out of the Homewood Police Department. Each warrant came with a set bail of $25,000.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15

Adderall Taken From School Nurse's Office

Sometime between 4 p.m. Feb. 14 and 9 a.m. Feb. 15, someone stole a bottle of Adderall from a cabinet in the nurse's office at Prairieview Middle School, 8500 W. 175th Street in Tinley Park. One custodian reported seeing another custodian in the locked cabinet, but said he didn't see him take anything, according to the report. The cabinets are constantly locked but a key may have been accessible at the time, the report said. 

A Box of Tricks

Around 3:50 p.m., Tinley Park police were called to Centennial Park, 7825 W. 167th Street, by a man who said he was walking his dog when he stumbled across a box of ropes, bungee chords and spray paint. Police said the box also contained stainless steel kitchen knives. It was found in the bushes near the southwest corner of a wooden footbridge, according to the report. 

TUESDAY, FEB. 14

Snatched Lottery Tickets Get Cashed

Officers were called around 9 a.m. to the Shell gas station at 17101 Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park for a report of five stolen lottery tickets.

The theft was discovered when employees were taking inventory of the tickets. The store manager then called the Illinois lottery and gave them the numbers of the five missing cards.

All five were $20 winners and had been cashed at an Oak Forest gas station. Police went to that gas station and got surveillance footage of the transaction. The case remained under investigation Tuesday.
