Blotter: Windows Covered in Spray Paint, Gargoyle Missing, and More

Tinley Park Police reports, July 20, 22-23 and 25.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 25 

Retail Theft

  • Police arrested Michele M. Sweders, 38, of the 8300 block of West Chestnut Court in Frankfort, and charged her with felony retail theft. They said that around 3:50 p.m. Sweders entered Kohl's, 7500 W. 191st, Tinley Park, with a man who helped her steal. The duo took off the shelf a coffee maker priced at $119.99 and a cookware set priced at $249.99 and then brought them to customer service for returns, according to the report. The pair received gift cards in exchange for the "returned" items and left the scene. Police hadn't located the man as of July 26. 
  • Patricia A. Clarett, 57, of the 400 block of West 12th Street in Chicago Heights, was arrested around 6:45 p.m. by the Chicago Heights Police Department and charged with felony retail theft for an incident in Tinley Park. Police said that earlier that day, Clarett stole $71.97 worth of baby formula from the Jewel-Osco on Harlem Avenue.

MONDAY, JULY 23

Bike Found

A man living in the 6700 block of West 174th Street in said someone left a 26-inch Schwinn bicycle leaning on the fence to the west of his residence. Police inventoried the bike. It remained Tuesday at the Tinley Park Police Department.

SUNDAY, JULY 22

Windows Covered in Spray Paint

A woman living in the 17700 block of South 67th Street in called the cops after she found all the windows of her 2004 Pontiac spray-painted lime green. The sides of the vehicle were also covered in the paint, according to the report.

When police asked the 29-year-old victim if she had problems with anyone, she told them she was organizing a craft fair at her church and the show had to be rescheduled. Some of the people who bought tables were angry, she told police. The incident likely occurred between 9 p.m. July 21 and 9 a.m. July 22. 

FRIDAY, JULY 20

Gargoyle Missing 

A resident of the 7700 block of 173rd Street in called around 2:30 p.m. to report that someone stole a $500 concrete bulldog gargoyle from the front of his home. The man said he believed the statue was taken sometime overnight.
