Blotter: Woman Tells Mail Carrier, 'Post Office is Going to Get a Bullet,' After Late Delivery

BLOTTER ITEM UPDATE

, contained a report of a stolen 2013 Toyota Sienna on Oct. 11 from Orland Toyota, 8505 159th St. On Oct. 17, the dealership's manager contacted police, telling them that the vehicle had been loaned out to a customer. The check-out information for the vehicle was not entered correctly, the report stated.

TUESDAY, OCT. 9

Man Charged for Stealing Vent Grate

Frank J. Groenewold, 45, of the 17200 block of South 71st Ave., was charged with theft after police arrested him for stealing a metal ventilation grate from the Tinley Park Mental Center grounds. Groenewold was released on $1,500 bond, and his next court date is Nov. 20.

3 Country Club Hills Women Face Retail Theft Charges

Three Country Club Hills women were arrested for trying to make off with more than $700 in unpaid merchandise from Kohl’s, 7500 W. 191st St., according to a police report.

Miata M. Kemp, 22; Marayah M. Young, 18; and Nakia T. Bragg-Sladen, 18, were charged with misdemeanor retail theft and released on $1,500 bond.

At about 5:15 p.m., the store's loss prevention agent saw the trio gather numerous items of clothing, footwear and jewelry and take them into a fitting room, the report stated. When the they came out, the women were without the items, the report continued. The trio then left the store, the report stated.

When the loss prevention agent confronted the women in the parking lot, Young and Bragg-Sladen fled in a tan Chevrolet Blazer, the report stated. But the two women were caught by police, responding to the theft called, the report continued.

Once in custody, police determined the value of the merchandise each woman tried to get away with:

• Kemp: $220
• Young: $250
• Bragg-Sladen: $250

TUESDAY, OCT. 16

Tires, Rims Stolen From 2 Vehicles at Dealership

The tires and rims from two vehicles—a 2013 Dodge Challenger and a 2012 Dodge Avenger—parked at Bettenhausen Dodge, 8355 W. 159th St., were reported stolen, according to a police report.

Also, the tires and rims from a 2013 Dodge Dart had been removed, with the lug nuts taken off, but the tires and rims still on the car, the report stated.

Woman Tells Mail Carrier: 'Post Office is Going to Get a Bullet'

A U.S. postal carrier filed a disorderly conduct complaint against a woman on her route for yelling and cursing at the carrier, as well as threatening the Tinley Park Post Office, a police report stated.

The carrier was delivering mail on the afternoon of Oct. 17 in the 7500 block of 164th Place when a resident—a woman in her 50s or 60s—came to the door of the house she was dropping off mail, the report stated, adding the carrier said she couldn't remember the resident's name.

“Is this a f------ joke?" the woman said, according to the report. "Why are you so late? I have bills to pay.”

The carrier tried to explain the reason for the late delivery, but the woman continued to swear at the postal worker.

“The post office is going to get a bullet,” the woman said, according to the report.

The woman didn't respond and went back inside the house when the carrier asked if that was a threat, the report stated. Asked if she felt threatened by what the woman said, the carrier said no, then added that she wouldn't "put it past" the resident, the report continued. As for why she waited a day to report the incident, the carrier told police she informed her supervisor when it happened, but nothing was done. A postal union representative instructed her to tell another supervisor, the report stated.

Police tried contacting woman, but no one answered the phone or door, according to the report. The Postal Inspectors Office is now handling the investigation, the report stated.

Flags Taken From High School Grounds

Two flags displayed at Tinley Park High School, 6111 W. 175th St., were reported stolen, according to police. A U.S. flag and a high school flag were on the pole in the at the football and athletics field in back of the school and were taken some time between Oct. 5 and 14, the report stated.
