Blotter: Women Grab About $2,000 in Smell-Goods; Resident Chases Burglar

Also in today's blotter, copper parts are stolen from AC units on a building's roof and a shoplifter grabs a web cam. These are the Tinley Park police reports from Feb. 21-22.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 22 

Leaving the Scene

Cindy M. Curasi, 32, of the 1600 block of Buena Vista Circle in Chicago Heights, was arrested around 11 a.m. on a warrant for leaving the scene of an accident with vehicle damage. Police said security cameras caught Curasi reversing into another vehicle in the Super Target parking lot at 7300 191st St. Curasi told police she was on the phone when the damage occurred and thought she'd hit a shopping cart. Her bail was set at $1,500.

Graffiti Spotted

A resident of the 16800 block of 82nd Avenue in called police around 8 a.m. when he noticed orange graffiti on his condominium's garages.

Copper Stolen From AC Units

Sometime between 11 a.m. Feb. 16 and 9:20 a.m. Feb. 22, someone stole about $600 worth of copper parts from four air conditioning units that were on the roof of a building in the 17100 block of Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park. 

Warrant Arrest

Shalliece N. Downs, 26, of the 21200 block of Vivienne Drive in Matteson, turned herself in around 6 p.m. to the on a warrant for driving on a suspended license. Her bail was set at $1,000.

Shoplifter Grabs Matches and a Web Cam

Police said Michael M. Mathisen, 25, of the 8400 block of West 191st Street in Tinley Park, grabbed a Microsoft web cam and pack of Coleman matches from Super Target around 6:20 p.m. and left the store without paying. He was arrested at the store, located at 7300 W. 191st, and charged with one count of retail theft. The items totaled slightly more than $56. Bail was set at $1,500.

TUESDAY, FEB. 21

Resident Chases Burglar

Shortly before 1 a.m., a woman said she saw a man try breaking into her 2005 Chevrolet Suburban which was parked in a driveway in the 17000 block of South Gaynelle Road in Tinley Park. When the man was trying to open the car doors, the resident, who was inside her home, tapped on her home's window from inside to get the thief's attention. The burglar went running and was chased by the victim's friend into the backyard of a home in the 16900 block of the street. 

Women Grab About $2,000 in Smell-Goods

Police said they were called around 2:50 p.m. to Bath & Body Works, 16035 S. Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, for a report of a retail theft that had just occurred. They said a manager contacted them after a store customer told her she saw five women filling a store bag with products before leaving without paying. Employees said 158 products valued at about $2,000 were taken. Surveillance footage captured the crime.
