Burglar Nabs Coin Collection, Jug of Change and Diamond Necklace

Someone broke into a local man's home recently and police said it may have been during a time he was hospitalized.

A local man called police around 11 a.m. when he noticed a few items missing from his 66th Court residence, including $2,000 in change and a coin collection.

The man told Friday that he last saw the items at the beginning of October, shortly before he spent a three-day stint in an area hospital. He said he's unsure if the home was locked when he was taken there in an ambulance.

When he got back, he noticed that a diamond necklace that belonged to his wife, who has passed away, was missing from his closet. A coin collection featuring 15 sets of coins from the U.S. Mint was also nowhere to be found, nor was a large jug of loose change, according to the report.

The man told police he lives with a friend who told him she knew nothing of the stolen items. He does not suspect that she would ever take them, the report said, "because he trusts her."

The man said he believed someone burglarized the home sometime between Oct. 15 and No. 2.
