Burglar Nabs More Than $23,000 in Belongings During Break-in

Police said someone recently broke into a home in the 17800 block of South Harlem Avenue in and stole more than $23,000 in tools and other items.

The victim didn't report the theft right away because he was out of the country between Feb. 3 and Feb. 29, when he had asked a friend to house sit. The friend came upon the break-in on March 1 around 11 a.m., according to the report. 

Officers said someone entered through a back garage door where pry marks were found. Various dresser and closet drawers were open inside the residence, according to the report. 

The following items were reported missing:

• Cub Cadet lawnmower, $2,000
• International Harvester snow blower, $2,000
• Sears snow blower, $2,000
• Various tool chests, $4,000
• Sets of hand tools, $2,000
• Craftsman, 20-gallon air compressor, $500
• Pneumatic tools, $500
• Precision measuring machine tools, $750
• Ignition and timing analyzers, $300
• DA sander, grinders, body hammers, sure form tools, $1,000
• Bench grinder, $200
• Two paint guns, $250
• Hydraulic floor jack and related tools, $200
• Set of snap-on metric combination wrenches, $250
• Various saws, $350
• 24-volt chargers, jumper cables, battery tester, $400
• Two steel work tables, $200
• 10,000 pound cargo chain $100
• Gas cans, $100
• 20-foot aluminum ladder and 8-foot step ladder, $250
• Drill press, electric drill, makita cordless drill, drill bits and a jig saw, $1,000
• Various yard equipment, $750
• Gas/hydraulic log splitter, $500
• Several scooters and dirt bikes, $2,200
• Multi-drawer filing cabinet, $300
• Two bicycles, $200
• A bronze sun dial, $50
• Various jewelry, $500
• Various antique auto parts, $1,000

Total: $23,850 

The case remained under investigation on April 2.
