Burglar Snags $10,000 in Valuables From Apartment

Police say a burglar, or burglars broke into a local residence over the weekend while the tenant was in Chicago for the evening.

were called to a local apartment to collect evidence following what they called an "obvious break-in" in which a thief pried open a screen, crawled through a window and left out the patio doors.

They say the burglary occurred between 8 p.m. July 21 and 9 a.m. July 22 while the renter was spending the night in Chicago. The apartment is located in the 7400 block of West 159th Place in .

The first item the 32-year-old woman noticed missing was her 52-inch LCD television, according to the report. Other stolen items included a wedding ring containing a 1.5-carat diamond, a Sony DCR video camera, an Apple iPad, two PlayStation video games, an HP laptop computer, an Apple MacBook computer, a white gold watch with a red leather band and a white gold chain with diamonds. 

Officers interviewed neighbors, who said they didn't see anything suspicious during the time frame in question. The burglary remained under investigation July 24.
