Burglars Strike Sandalwood Apartment; Snag Electronics and Jewelry

Tinley Park police are looking for leads in a local apartment break-in.

said a burglar broke into a Sandalwood Lane apartment this week and made off with video game equipment and jewelry.

The couple reporting the burglary lived in the 7300 block of Sandalwood Drive in , according to the police report. They said they left their place at 1:30 p.m. Monday and locked only the door handle, not the deadbolt.

When they got back at 2:40 p.m., their door was ajar. The refrigerator was pulled away from the wall in the kitchen, the report said, and the woman's jewelry box was on the floor in one of the bedrooms.

Reported missing were eight Xbox video games, an Xbox game console, a gold and diamond watch, a white gold and diamond ring, an emerald ring, a gold, engraved ring and a gold charm necklace. Residents estimated the loss to be around $5,430, the report said.

Neighbors said they hadn't noticed anyone suspicious in the area. The burglary remained under investigation Thursday.
