Burglars Target Local Home, Steal More than $1,000 Worth of Items

Tinley Park police are investigating a local home invasion that occurred when residents left for less than one hour.

Burglars made off Monday with electronics, cash and jewelry from a local home that was left unoccupied for just 45 minutes.

Police said that between 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. someone made their way into a home in the 8000 block of Mallow Drive in . The homeowner and another resident returned from an errand to find the back patio door of the home unlocked and halfway open, according to the report.

However, officers said there was no signs of forced entry. Missing from the home was a 22-inch flat screen television, Hewlett Packard laptop computer, $105 in cash and coins and random pieces of jewelry.

"(An officer), while walking around outside of the residence, located a television remote … near the northeast corner of the house," the report said. " … A responding officer went to the neighbors' houses … but neither resident was home at the time."

The total value of the stolen property is estimated to be more than $1,000, according to the report. The case remained under investigation Tuesday.
