Two unidentified men broke in to a village tobacco shop early Saturday morning, stealing the store's cash register and around 125 cartons of cigarettes, Tinely Park Police report.

Police responded to an alarm at Smokey Top Tobacco in the 7300 block of 183rd Street after 3 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, and found the store's south door forced open, the report stated. When officers entered the store, they saw several cartons of Newport cigarettes on the floor, empty shelves behind the cashier’s counter and the cash register missing, the report continued.
Security camera footage showed a dark-colored vehicle—possibly a Nissan Altima or Ford Fusion—pull up to the store, and two men exited, wearing light-colored clothing and gloves, the report stated. The men used a sledgehammer and a pry bar to force open the lock on the door, the report continued, adding that one of the suspects brought along a large, plastic bin that was used to take away the cigarette cartons.

About 30 cartons of Marlboro Reds, 15 cartons of Marlboro Lights and about 80 cartons of Newports were taken, the owner told police, adding that he would have better inventory of the missing items later.
Two years ago, Smokey Top Tobacco has been the site of an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery almost a month apart. In November 2010, a shop clerk was hospitalized after being beaten by a gunmen during a robbery. The next month, a suspect was injured during a hold-up at the store.
