Catalytic Converters Stolen from Cars by Oak Park Avenue Metra Station

Thieves cut the exhaust parts right off the vehicles, but there may have been a witness to one crime.

Two cars parked by the Oak Park Avenue Metra station had their catalytic converters stolen on Oct. 25, police said.

The first theft was from a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee sometime between 6:40 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Hickory Street Metra lot, police said. It appeared the exhaust pipe had been cut, probably with a hand-held electric cutting device, police said.

In the second theft, which took place on a 2000 Toyota between 7 a.m. and 6:25 p.m. in a lot on South Street, the driver noticed the car was louder than normal on the drive home. She asked her husband to investigate, which is when he noticed the catalytic converter had been taken, police said.
