Catch 'Em All: Tinley Police Capture Seat Belt Scofflaws

Police cited 51 people and caught one drunken driver during a "Click It or Ticket" operation.

More than 50 people driving without a buckled seat belt were ticketed by Tinley Park police during a recent enforcement operation.

Officers netted one drunken driving arrest and wrote out 51 seat belt citations during the period of Aug. 16 to Sept. 2, police said. Officers also handed out 5 other traffic citations.

This latest effort, like many before it, was supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Police departments across Illinois ran similar “Click It or Ticket” operations during the same time in August and September to augment their normal ticketing.

“Our officers are out all year long,” said Sgt. Christopher Butler of the Tinley Park Police Department in a news release. “If you or your passengers are caught not wearing a seat belt, day or night, you will be cited for the safety violation.”
