A burglar used a crowbar to shatter the window of a local tobacco shop early Tuesday, when he made off with about $250 in smokes.
were dispatched to the Tobacco Plus, 8021 183rd St., Suite D, in at 5:58 a.m. for a burglar alarm, according to the police report. When the arrived, they found the north glass door of the business was shattered.
The store wasn't ransacked, they said, and the safe, cash register and shelves were undisturbed.
The owner watched video surveillance footage which showed a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt walk up to the storefront with what looked like a crowbar in hand. He broke the door, entered the business and grabbed five boxes of Newport cigarettes from behind the counter, the report said. The cartons were valued at $251.
The man briefly walked around inside the store looking at the safe and other areas before leaving through the same broken door he entered.
The business owner said he's willing to sign complaints in the incident.
Police collected evidence at the scene and made a copy of the video surveillance footage, according to the report.
