Cops: Employee Caught Stealing Lotto Tickets

Police say a local convenience store worker was killing time by stealing lottery tickets—thousands of dollars worth.

The owner of a local convenience store said he watched his employee via surveillance stealing what could be as much as $6,000 in scratch-off lottery tickets.

The 30-year-old owner of Bayberry Pantry in said his now former employee, stole $5, $20 and $30 scratch-off tickets while working at the pantry between April 1 and May 9. He reported the incident to police in July, saying he was missing as much as $6,000 in his lottery drawer for the month of April.

He first saw the 26-year-old worker taking the tickets May 1 while sitting in his home and watching surveillance footage, according to the police report. 

"(He) immediately went back to the store and confronted (the employee), who confirmed his actions and advised (the owner) that he was 'bored,'" an officer wrote, in the report.

The employee is not named in this report because he had not yet been arrested as of July 30.
