Cops: Woman Downs Vodka Before Driving With Daughter in the Car

A local woman faces six charges, including endangering the life of a child, after police pulled her over last month while she was on her way back from a tobacco shop, reports said.

pulled over a driver last month who they said had her 8-year-old daughter in the car while she was driving under the influence of alcohol.  

They stopped Sandra E. Baker, 37, of the 5500 block of West 175th Street in , around 11 p.m. near the intersection of 182nd Street and Oak Park Avenue, according to the report. Officers said Baker was driving erratically—speeding and then randomly slowing down—and that the registration to her 1995 Cadillac Eldorado had been expired since 2007. 

Baker told police she was coming from "the tobacco shop," reports said. Cops said she didn't have her license on her and didn't know where her insurance card was. She admitted to having a few drinks at her home earlier, according to the report, and later told them she'd done shots of vodka and drank a beer.

Her daughter was taken safely from the scene while her mother was arrested.

She reportedly failed field sobriety tests. At the , she blew a .291 on the Breathalyzer, reports said. She was charged with driving a vehicle with an expired registration, driving with an expired driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08 and endangering the life of a child.
